June 2022 MCQSC Update: MCQSC Participates in National Conference on Airplane Noise and Health; A Noise Complaint System for Helicopters

Adjectives to describe aircraft noise:  A big "thank you!" to all who sent adjectives describing your experience living under NextGen flight paths.  The word cloud that was generated using your powerful words is attached.  MCQSC Vice President Anne Hollander presented your words at a national conference June 16. The online conference, Aircraft Noise, Pollution and Health: Connecting the Dots, drew more than 400 participants from the United States and other countries. The video recording can be viewed here:

Washington D.C. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton was the key note speaker. Hollander was one of seven speakers on a community panel. Doctors and professors from Tufts Univeristy, the University of Pennsylvania’s Perlman School of Medicine, Gutenberg University, Mainz and the University of Vermont Medical Center served on a health panel. There also was a legal panel, which discussed using the health impacts to affect change. The full list of speakers is available here.

Many thanks to Quiet Communities and all who supported and attended this program.

Helicopters: For our members impacted by helicopter noise, we have learned that a noise-complaint reporting system for helicopters in the DC region is in the works.  To our knowledge it is not operational yet, but this is a positive step.  Details here.
